HANDS ON EXPERIENCE I believe that most people do struggle with
using their cameras as it takes a lot of time. Just
point and shoot. However, paintings in art galleries
or indoors need some instructions. I visited one Art
Gallery and the artist was kind enough to teach me
how to use my Canon SLR camera. These are the
following tips:
1. Use a tripod.
2. Set to Auto-focus
3. Set to Manual (M) Mode.
4. Adjust the White Balance by pointing the camera
at a white area if possible. If not a light yellow
area inside the art gallery.
5. Look at the view finder.
6. Press the shooting button half-way. You will see
the camera settings particularly the aperture "iris"
and the distance readings. On the camera, set the
needle to mid-point by turning the dials for the
aperture and distance readings. (I need to provide
the proper technical terms later).
7. When the needle is in the middle, the auto-focus
is on. Press the button. Reasonably good pictures
(without flash causing bad spots) are produced as
shown below.

Hands-on experience is important for the veterinary student if he
wants to produce good pictures for his or her veterinary project.
Instructions from experienced photographers is better than
reading the dull manual but you need to be proactive and network.
For top quality indoor photography of paintings and friends, you
will need a better digital camera and also to know how to use the Manual Mode and the settings.
Students: Create beautiful pictures rather than consume by
spending lots of your spare time and energy on online gaming, pubs
and parties. Good photography skills give you an edge in looking for
good jobs (and maybe good spouses) as most of your peers cannot be
bothered with being skilful at photography. Start today. It takes
time to be productive and competent. Most people appreciate presents
of beautiful pictures and remember you for your kind thoughts.
