delivery. This pup took >25 min of revival.
However, its body condition was very good and I
expect it to thrive and grow up as the most
beautiful chocolate Chihuahua in Singapore. The
secret of success is feeding the mother well and
correctly. You can see that this top breeder knew
what to do to be successful.

Aug 11, 2005. Whitish meconium seen in amniotic sac. The sole pup
was severely distressed. But the mum could die of heart attack and
the only way was to stitch her up fast. But the patriarch did not
know what to do with a precious chihuahua with water-filled lungs.
Sacrifice the mother or the pup? I had to decide. The
dam had heart problems and the pup was life-less |

Aug 9, 2005. The puppy training pad is seldom
recommended by pet shop operators as they cost
more. But they are definitely cleaner for white
puppies compared to newspapers' ink stains.
Shredding is still possible.

Aug 9, 2005. 58-63 days reported to be the bitch's gestation
period. Odd cases of puppy survival reported past 70 days by two
breeders in Singapore. Elective Caesarean to save pups past 63
days. Thin dam. 5 vigorous pups. Note thick coat.

Aug 7, 2005. Large breed playpen + pee tray
(6 feet x 3 feet probably) + newspaper on 33% of
area gives this very intelligent Scottish Terrier
66% clean sleeping area. He barks to clear soiled
newspaper even past midnight. Not permitted to
come out if he has not passed motion. Come out 1
hour. Watch for signs. Put back into playpen. Dual
nozzle water bottle. If playpen has a door, this
dog will be able to get to newspapers. < 14
days toilet trained. Success toilet-training story.

Aug 7, 2005. Tips for vets. Pom Caesarean 1 hour after water
bag burst. Extend skin incision to 4 cm long. Normal is 3
cm. Saw 2 large uterine "horns" but they were pups 1 & 3 in right
horn. Used index finger to locate horn/body junction (X). Confrim
it is correct anatomy. Incised (red ellipse). Pulled out 3 pups.
Be careful not to incise Y and bladder near pup 3. |

Breeder gave adult dog feed + supplements instead
of puppy feed (high protein) during pregnancy.
Thin dam said to have excellent appetite. Was this
a cause of weak puppies? |

later, it is doubtful whether the Pomeranian puppy would be alive.

Aug 6, 2005. The owner knew the cat had a
fish bone inside the throat. The cat was feverish.
Was it going to cost a bomb to remove the fish
bone stuck past the voice box? Fortunately, a pair
of forceps clamped onto the y-shaped fish bone and
one pull was all it needed to fish out the bone.

Aug 6, 2005. 3-month-old Siberian Husky at
3rd vaccination. Advised couple not to continue feeding just rice
+ minced meat + carrots given for initial diarrhoea. To convert to
premium puppy food. Was puppy imported under 3 months of age owing
to greater demand? Some huskies are smaller in size, I told
the widely read couple. Permanent canines erupt at 6-7 months
old. May be used as a guide to aging of this puppy.

Aug 5, 2005. Persistent diarrhoea but
normal. Needs a vet to normalise gut
function, treat infection and
observe. The pet shop girl was wise not to
delay veterinary treatment as the kittens would
have died of dehydration over time. After 30
days, formed normal stools when fed canned food.

Aug 1, 2005. Lower part of vulva bruised. An
inexperienced assistant tried to pull out large pup. lst
large pup stilborn. Hoped that 2nd pup could be born naturally.
Breeder at dog show. Over 3 hours of dystocia. Too late to save
pup. |

Aug 1, 2005. This breeder is very good at spotting
when his Mini-Maltese needed an elective
Caesarean. This time, he was a bit late but
managed to save one pup and the mother was less
distressed by difficult birth. |

Aug 1, 2005. I completed vaccination at
farm. It was good to listen to the patriarch past farm
stories of vets, pigs and others. Suddenly, the assistant showed a
Pom with 2 feet seen at the vulva. |
